Break Down of the Issues - Part 7

Domestic Policy

Sadly, while the following issue is one dividing communities across our country, the candidates do not go very in depth on their immigration policies. Domestic policy will be broken up into numerous sections as the candidates go in depth on plans for numerous topics. See also Part 1, Part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5 and part 6. Again, all of these policy statements are taken from the candidates' campaign websites.

john j, the ideas of Hillary and Obama are unworkable nonsense. The candidates obviously know nothing about those who earn money "off the books" in cash positions.

Day laborers, lawn-mowers, house painters and lots of others are paid in cash and often operate their own small businesses. I see it every day in NY City.

Illegal aliens do not work for IBM or Costco or Home Depot. They work in bodegas, restaurants, and other venues too numerous for government agents to track.

Based on the plans of Hillary and Obama, we'd become a nation of policemen aimed at catching all the illegal aliens. Never happen.

"the ideas of Hillary and Obama are unworkable nonsense" Do you have an alternative that is more workable? If you are supporting the Republican plans, most (except for McCain and until recently Huckabee) required the deportation of 12 million people, almost 1% of the American population. The plan from the other two is very similar to the Democrats' plans.

As for your other statements, do you have proof of their legal status, or is it just a racist diatribe? Not every Hispanic person is an illegal, and not every illegal is Hispanic. Almost half of our immigration problem is people overstaying student and related visas.

Deleted for lack of evidence and blatant racism.

john j, you have an obvious lack of experience with the wider world.

The US has an Immigration and Naturalization Service that spends its days and nights catching illegal aliens and throwing them out of the country.

I can show you the INS jail in Brooklyn. It's a busy place and always full.

I can also show you many places where illegal alien workers gather to wait for contractors to pick them to perform day labor, like cutting lawns, painting, demolition and other low-skill work.

You must be in the tail end of your idealistic stage of life.

Millions of people sneak into the US. It is estimated there are 500,000 illegal aliens in NY City alone.

After 9/11 the Pakistani neighborhood near my house lost a lot of residents. The area was home to about 90,000 Pakistanis. But after 9/11 when INS agents and the FBI began probing, the population dropped about 15,000.

According to the FBI agent who spoke at a local meeting, the missing 15,000 left the country because they had entered the country illegally. That was a bad time for muslims to get arrested. Thus, they left the country.

"you have an obvious lack of experience with the wider world" No, I just refuse to be a racist.

I did not say that there is not an immigration problem. I never said that all of the people you see are legal immigrants. I know INS is busy, there are 12 million illegal immigrants in the US by all estimates. I also know that many of them are day laborers.

As for your comment about the Pakistanis, it wasn't just a bad time to be arrested as a Muslim, it was a dangerous time to be a Muslim. My guess is that many of the 15,000 that you claimed left, left because they would face significant persecution just because of their race/religion.

I will grant you this one post, but if you continue to post such racist garbage and blanket stereotypes on my blog I will delete them.

Nonsequitur and racist. It is not about whether hate crimes happened or not against the Pakistanis that left, it is about whether there was a climate of hatred towards all things Muslim - a fact that you yourself admitted - which would have driven some people out of the area/country.
